Northside Revitalization Project Map

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $500,000 grant to the City of Fort Collins, who will work in partnership with Larimer County and the Downtown Development Authority to conduct environmental assessments in north Fort Collins. The environmental assessments are at no charge to the participant and provide valuable environmental liability protection.

Triple-bottom-line benefits of addressing our community Brownfields:
  • Protects and creates opportunities to improve environmental quality
  • Connects Downtown to the North College corridor
  • Promotes redevelopment and economic vitality

Ensuring the Success of Revitalization

The partnership is critical to ensuring the success of revitalization and reuse of properties in this area by eliminating the stigma of environmental impacts where none exist, and by assisting participants to identify issues so they can be mitigated. Properties to be assessed are known as ‘brownfields,’ which include properties previously used for industrial or commercial activities that may have been environmentally impacted by such activities as auto repair and servicing, petroleum retail sales, and dry cleaning. The EPA grant gives our community a lens allowing us to carefully examine site potential and further assess underutilized property that may be impacted and ensure property reuse that benefits the entire community.
